The second collaboration between CT::SWaM and Neu West Berlin!
CT::SWaM [Contemporary Temporary:: Sound Works and Music] will now be intermittently presenting compositions and experiments for audible space at Neu West Berlin.

DETAILS

KAMRON SANIEE

Live multichannel performance for 8ch radial speaker system.
A single high-dimensional sonic source is modulated and diffused live via wave-modalities of spatial control.
Probing an aesthetics of heightened spatial awareness, the formal elements of the work are composed to emphasize intrinsic spatiality in opposition to spatialization, a distinction furthered by the expressive potential of haptic interfacing when coupled with the design capabilities of realtime programmatic synthesis. The performance is motivated by a search for the gestures which would accompany an ur-language of spatial music, in which the subject is always the listener’s awareness, objectifying the trajectories of a hyperspatial scene.

DORON SADJA

The Gentle Caress of a Stone Wall
A concrete bunker, a stone chapel, an abandoned water cistern, a wooden coffin: all architectural spaces sing. Using Impulse Response reverb, the technique in which the acoustics of a physical space can be modeled using recorded audio from a location, The Gentle Caress of a Stone Wall explores the sonic materiality of architectural space – not as an effect or simulation, but as an instrument in and of itself. Using this same technique of acoustical modeling, the work also examines what kind of inherent architecture could be embedded in a sound devoid of space (what are the physical dimensions of a clarinet note, a brass chord, or the timbre of a human voice?). Tonight’s performance is a work in progress and will be presented in full at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics in Graz on their 24 channel hemispheric sound system in April 2016.

Doron Sadja is an American artist, composer, and curator whose work explores modes of perception and the experience of sound, light, and space. Combining pristine electronics with lush romantic synthesizers, extreme frequencies, dense noise, and high intensity smoke and light projections, Sadja creates hyper-emotive sonic architecture. Sadja has published music on 12k and Shinkoyo records; performed at PS1 MoMa NYC, CBK Center for Contemporary Art Amsterdam, STEIM/Bimhuis, and Norberg Festival; been commissioned to write work for the String Orchestra of Brooklyn; artist in residence at EMS Stockholm and iii in den Hague; and collaborated with Tony Conrad, Audrey Chen, and Aki Onda amongst others.
